Yang Earth Day Master — 戊 (wù)
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar: the sign that stands for you in a BaZi chart, the one every other sign is read against. There are ten of them, each element in a yang and a yin form. If you do not know yours yet, the calculator finds it from your birth date, time and place in a few seconds.
Traditional image
Yang Earth is a mountain, a dam, a high dry plateau: it stays where it is, holds back water and shelters whatever grows on its slopes. The classics call it heavy and broad and say it wants the sun's warmth and the roots of trees to loosen it, otherwise it hardens. The image is stability and protection, with slowness as its shadow.
Three traits in this system
In this system a Yang Earth Day Master is read as a chart with these leanings:
- Steady: a point others lean on.
- Protective of what is entrusted.
- Slow to move, hard to shift.
This is a reading by the rules of the system, for reflection and planning, not a statement about you. How much of it shows depends on the rest of the chart.
What supports it and what draws on it
Earth is fed by Fire: signs of Earth and Fire in the chart support a Yang Earth Day Master. Metal is what it produces, Water is what it controls, and Wood is what controls it: these three draw on it. In the app each of these relations has a name among the ten gods, and the library explains every one of them.
Earth is in season in the four transitional months, one at each turn of the seasons (early April, early July, early October and early January). In this system the month of birth weighs most in the strength of the Day Master, so a Yang Earth Day Master born in its own season starts with the strongest support.
Strong or weak
In this system a Yang Earth Day Master is read through weight and use: the chart is asked whether the mountain has warmth and roots to keep it alive, or whether it only accumulates. With strong support it is read as a chart that holds and carries; with little support it is read as thin ground, and the planner looks for the periods that bring fire and steadiness.
How the app decides: it looks at the season of the month branch, at the roots of the Day Master's element among the stems hidden in the earthly branches, and at how many open signs support it against how many draw on it. The thresholds are published on the calculation method page, and next to every rating the app shows “why I see this”.
Its counterpart
Yang Earth is the yang form of Earth; the yin form is Yin Earth. The two share an element and a season but are read through different images.
Find your Day Master
The calculator runs the same engine as the BaziArt app and does not store your birth data. The app adds the planner, the hour windows and the full chart with “why I see this” under every term.
