Yin Earth Day Master — 己 (jǐ)

The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar: the sign that stands for you in a BaZi chart, the one every other sign is read against. There are ten of them, each element in a yang and a yin form. If you do not know yours yet, the calculator finds it from your birth date, time and place in a few seconds.

Traditional image

Yin Earth is a field, garden soil, the earth that is worked and sown: it takes in rain, holds seeds and gives back a harvest. The classics say it is humble and fertile, needs the sun and the rain in measure, and is spoiled by too much water or too much raw wood. The image is nurture and practicality: what is planted here grows, slowly and for real.

Three traits in this system

In this system a Yin Earth Day Master is read as a chart with these leanings:

This is a reading by the rules of the system, for reflection and planning, not a statement about you. How much of it shows depends on the rest of the chart.

What supports it and what draws on it

Earth is fed by Fire: signs of Earth and Fire in the chart support a Yin Earth Day Master. Metal is what it produces, Water is what it controls, and Wood is what controls it: these three draw on it. In the app each of these relations has a name among the ten gods, and the library explains every one of them.

Earth is in season in the four transitional months, one at each turn of the seasons (early April, early July, early October and early January). In this system the month of birth weighs most in the strength of the Day Master, so a Yin Earth Day Master born in its own season starts with the strongest support.

Strong or weak

In this system a Yin Earth Day Master is read through fertility and measure: the chart is asked whether the field has sun and rain in balance and whether something grows on it. With strong support it is read as a chart that sustains others; with little support it is read as tired soil, and the planner looks for the periods that bring warmth and rest.

How the app decides: it looks at the season of the month branch, at the roots of the Day Master's element among the stems hidden in the earthly branches, and at how many open signs support it against how many draw on it. The thresholds are published on the calculation method page, and next to every rating the app shows “why I see this”.

Its counterpart

Yin Earth is the yin form of Earth; the yang form is Yang Earth. The two share an element and a season but are read through different images.

Find your Day Master

The calculator runs the same engine as the BaziArt app and does not store your birth data. The app adds the planner, the hour windows and the full chart with “why I see this” under every term.
