Yang Water Day Master — 壬 (rén)
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar: the sign that stands for you in a BaZi chart, the one every other sign is read against. There are ten of them, each element in a yang and a yin form. If you do not know yours yet, the calculator finds it from your birth date, time and place in a few seconds.
Traditional image
Yang Water is the ocean, a great river: always moving, wide, carrying ships and silt alike, and impossible to hold in the hands. The classics say it needs banks of earth to be useful and the sun above it to be beautiful; without banks it floods. The image is breadth and resourcefulness, with restlessness as its tide.
Three traits in this system
In this system a Yang Water Day Master is read as a chart with these leanings:
- Broad-minded, takes in a lot.
- Resourceful: finds a way around.
- Restless, needs a direction.
This is a reading by the rules of the system, for reflection and planning, not a statement about you. How much of it shows depends on the rest of the chart.
What supports it and what draws on it
Water is fed by Metal: signs of Water and Metal in the chart support a Yang Water Day Master. Wood is what it produces, Fire is what it controls, and Earth is what controls it: these three draw on it. In the app each of these relations has a name among the ten gods, and the library explains every one of them.
Water is in season in the first two months of winter (around 7 November to early January). In this system the month of birth weighs most in the strength of the Day Master, so a Yang Water Day Master born in its own season starts with the strongest support.
Strong or weak
In this system a Yang Water Day Master is read through banks and flow: the chart is asked whether earth gives the river a course and whether metal keeps feeding it. With strong support it is read as a chart that moves things and connects them; with little support it is read as a shallow stream, and the planner looks for the periods that bring a source.
How the app decides: it looks at the season of the month branch, at the roots of the Day Master's element among the stems hidden in the earthly branches, and at how many open signs support it against how many draw on it. The thresholds are published on the calculation method page, and next to every rating the app shows “why I see this”.
Its counterpart
Yang Water is the yang form of Water; the yin form is Yin Water. The two share an element and a season but are read through different images.
Find your Day Master
The calculator runs the same engine as the BaziArt app and does not store your birth data. The app adds the planner, the hour windows and the full chart with “why I see this” under every term.
